Berhampur: Berhampur Police has arrested a man for allegedly manufacturing adulterated and duplicate branded pickles.
The accused has been identified as Pintu Sahu (34) of Ambika Nagar under Badabazar PS in Berhampur.
Sahu runs a rented pickle manufacturing and processing unit at Brajaraja Nagar 4th lane, Berhampur.
Badabazar police and Food Safety officer, Berhampur raided the unit and unearthed various types of pickles having dangerous chemicals and non-permitted synthetic colors.
An FIR was registered and accused was found present in the processing unit along with his workers . During verification huge quantity of different types of raw materials of pickles, half processed pickles, finally processed pickles were seized. Different chemicals, non-permitted colours and other adulterated stuff that are very dangerous to human health were seized.
Different branded pickles like PRIYA Pickles, Sri Durga Pickles, PRIME Company pickles etc. were also seized which were purchased from market by the accused and adulterated with addition of chemicals and resealing them and selling those in high price and in this way he has been cheating the general people since last one year in an unhygienic way.
With help of BeMC Food Safety officials, samples were drawn up from all types of pickles which will be sent to food testing Laboratory, Bhubaneswar for examination and opinion. Further investigation going on to arrest others involved and to identify the supply chain and their involvement in the crime, said Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
