Berhampur Police Busts Illegal Gutkha Manufacturing Unit, Seizes Gutkha & Raw Materials worth Rs 10 crore

Berhampur: In a major crackdown, the Berhampur Police on Thursday unearthed an illegal gutkha manufacturing unit and seized gutkha and raw materials worth around Rs 10 crore.

The gutkha manufacturing unit was busted at Haladiapadar and Autonagar area.

Two persons were arrested by the police in this connection. They were identified as M. Brahmam of Balinkipeta Street under Badabajar PS and Subrat Kumar Behera of Rocklane, Hillpatna under Gosanihnuagaon PS, Berhampur.

Based on a reliable input about manufacturing of illegal gutkha, the Berhampur Police conducted raids at Autonagar and Haladiapadar area.

During the raid, the police seized 50 packets of gutkha, 50 ton of betel, perfume liquid- 2000 LTR, GAG 6FÃR-50 , 12 frying machines, six plastic drums with gutkha weighing 480 kg, six packets of gutkha masala weighing 300 kg and other materials. The buildings where the manufacturing units were running were sealed in presence of the executive magistrate.

Earlier in 2016 the accused P. Gopal Krushna was involved for the same offence and while the case is sub-judice, accused P. Gopal Krishna Rao was running this manufacturing unit again.

Investigation of the case is in progress and steps are being taken to arrest the main accused and others involved in this crime, Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M said in a statement.
