Berhampur Police Cracks Cash Van Robbery Case, Sucessfully Recovers Rs 20.90 Lakh Stolen Cash; Three Arrested

Berhampur: In a breakthrough, the Berhampur Police has cracked the ATM cash van robbery case and has successfully recovered stolen cash worth Rs 20,90,000.

Three persons including the driver of the van were arrested by Badabazar PS in this connection.

The accused persons have been identified as Ashish Kumar Digal(41) of Adasikupa village in Kandhamal district, Manyabara Nayak (43) of Kritangia village in Kandhamal district and Kartika Nayak (35) of Ranipada village in Kandhamal district.

Digal was the driver of Secure Value Van.

The police also seized one vehicle, four mobile phone and a plastic bottle containing Divine Sleep Liquid.

Giving details of the incident, the police said that the case was registered on August 18 regarding robbery of Rs. 24 Lakhs from the cash carrying vehicle of Secure Value India Ltd by administering stupefying drugs to the driver.

During investigation of the case, the driver, who was admitted at MKCG, MCH, Berhampur on August 18, was discharged from hospital the next night.

After thorough interrogation he confessed to have hatched a criminal conspiracy with Manyabar Naik and Kartika Naik for misappropriating cash.

Relying on the technical evidence and the statement of accused, raid was conducted at Kritangia village and the stolen cash was recovered from the possession of accused persons Manyabar Naik and Kartika Naik on early hours of 21.08.2021 from near the house of Manyabar Naik.

The cash was kept concealed in a plastic container underneath a stone by digging a hole in the ground.

The accused persons were arrested on August 21 and being forwarded to court.
Investigation of the case is in progress to know the involvement of other accused persons and seizure of rest of the cash, informed Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra.
