Berhampur Police Seizes Cash Worth Rs 1.2 Crore, 2.2 Kg Gold Biscuits

Berhampur: The Berhampur Police has seized cash worth Rs 1,21,97,000 and gold biscuits weighing 2.2 kilograms today.

On receiving information from the Excise Department about a person carrying a bag with huge cash, the Berhampur Police swung into action.

The Police seized the cash and found it to be of the value of Rs. 1,21,97,000 in Rs 500 denomination. Further investigation by Police revealed that the cash had been given in exchange of gold.

Police have detected that Anand Subuti (60), owner of Anand Jeweler of Berhampur, had paid the cash to the suspect person in exchange of gold.

The police also seized around 2.2 kilograms of gold biscuit from Anand and seized the cash from Dashrath Shaukar (35), Sangli, Maharashtra.

Both the persons were not able to produce any documents regarding either the cash or the gold. Police have seized the cash and the gold. It will be handed over to the Income Tax department after proper documentation.

The further investigation would be done by the Income Tax Department, informed Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.
