Berhampur: The Berhampur Police on Thursday seized illegal gutkha worth around Rs 4 lakh and arrested two persons in this connection.
The arrested persons have identified as Srikanta Das (29), of Gandhinagar, PS- B. Town, and Santosh Maharan (35) of Surala, Maharana Sahi, Golanthara, Ganjam district.
Based on information regarding manufacturing of Gutkha in a dwelling house at Surala ODRP colony, Golanthara Police conducted mid night raid at 11 AM of 03.11.2022 and seized illegal gutkha and raw materials from the spot.
The police said that accused persons were earlier working in Swagat Spices of Berhampur. They left job six months ago and arranged the 2nd hand packing machine and other equipments, collected the raw materials from the Berhampur and were manufacturing the gutkha and were selling those in the nearby market for the consumption which is illegal, the police added.
They were involved in this for the last three months. The accused persons were arrested today and forwarded to court.
