Berhampur Thakurani Yatra: 5T Secy Offers Prayers to Deity at Asthayi Mandap

Berhampur: Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian on Sunday offered his prayers to Maa Budhi Thakurani, the presiding deity of Berhampur, at the famous Thakurani Yatra of silk city.

The 5T Secretary visited the Asthayi Mandap (temporary abode) of Maa Thakurani at the Desi Behera street here to participate in the biennial festival.

The Berhampur Thakurani Yatra is one of the biggest festivals in Odisha. It has been recognized as the sixth state festival of Odisha. The festival is deeply rooted in the culture of Berhampur and its traditions.

The 2023 edition of this famous festival is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervor by the devotees.

On Sunday, the 5T Secretary participated in the festival and sought blessings of the deity for the wellbeing of all. He also held discussion with the local administration for the overall development of the Maa Budhi Thakurani temple. Ganjam Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida, Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M, other officials and peoples’ elected representatives were present during the discussion.

Budhi Thakurani temple is an ancient temple visited by hundreds of devotees every day. Therefore, it was decided to develop proper infrastructure for the convenience of the devotees. The 5T Secretary has asked the district administration to prepare a detailed plan within 15 days.

It is worth mentioning that VK Pandian had actively participated in the organizations of 2007 and 2009 editions of Berhampur Thakurani Yatra when he was the Collector of Ganjam district.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also visited the famous festival in 2017.
