Berhampur: Two persons were arrested in connection with the murder of the Child Welfare Committee member Saudamini Ratha in Nilakantha Nagar area in Berhampur.
The arrested persons have been identified as Simanchal Sahu (27) and Biswanath Sahu (25), both belonging to Berhampur.
As per the Berhampur Police, Simanchal had been working as a driver for Saudamini Ratha for four months.
During investigation, the police found that Saudamini had gone to Bhubaneswar on October 10 to attend a meeting with her colleague Lokanatha Mishra, who is the project director of Aruna NGO. She had program to stay at Bhubaneswar for three days and informed her driver not to come to office for those three days.
Getting this opportunity, the driver and his friend Biswanath Sahu, who was his associates in theft cases, planned to commit theft in the house of the deceased. As per their plan they purchased an iron cutter from a shop located at Aska Road, Berhampur the same evening.
Meanwhile victim had come to her house one day earlier. Simanchala managed to get inside the house and he was surprised to find the victim inside her house. Finding no way out he attacked her. He could not get time to commit theft and went away from there. Then he called his friend and narrated the whole incident to him and asked him to help get away from there in the motorcycle.
At around 11.15 Pm on October 11, information was received at Gosaninuagaon PS regarding assault to Saudamini. IIC, Gosaninuagaon and PS staffs immediately rushed to the spot and found body of Saudamini on the 1st floor of the building. Based on her sister Puspanjali Acharjya report case was registered and investigated, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
Both accused persons arrested and being forwarded today. They are involved in several cases. Simanchal Sahoo is also involved in a POCSO case.
