Bhadrak: Rural Works Asst. Executive Engineer Sent to Jail in Vigilance Trap Case

Bhubaneswar: Srikanta Kumar Mahunta, former Assistant Engineer, Rural Works Sub-Division, Pattamundi, Kendrapara district and currently Assistant Executive Engineer, Rural Works Sub-Division, Basudevpur, Bhadrak district, has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment in a Vigilance trap case.

Mahunta,who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act,1988 for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.20,000 from a contactor to do measurement and check measurement of the construction-road-work under PMGSY, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack.

The engineer has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine.

Further, the convict Mahunta, was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Mahunta from service following his conviction.
