Bhubaneswar: Capital Bhubaneswar is going to have one of the most modern and biggest bus terminals of the Country – the Baramunda ISBT very soon. The works related to the construction of the Bus Terminal are nearing completion and the ISBT is likely to be ready for inauguration in the coming weeks. Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena yesterday visited the new Bus Terminus site and reviewed the progress of the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) project at Baramunda. The project being implemented by BDA over 15.5 acres of land will be functional very soon.
The Baramunda ISBT project envisages as an inter and intra state grand bus terminus with interchange facilities from private buses to OSRTC to CRUT. It will have idle bus parking space identified near ISBT for minimal along with dedicated pick up and drop off space for taxi and private vehicles.
Being constructed at a cost of more than Rs 200 crore, the Baramunda Bus Terminus project has been taken up as a first step towards creating a world class transit infrastructure in the city which can act as complementary to lots of other initiatives in the transport sector, including modernization of city buses. Once operational, the ISBT can accommodate 2,000 buses daily. It will also have more than 20,000 sq. m. of commercial space. The ISBT at Baramunda would have easy access by people with mobility limitations and integration of transport and non-transport uses. While the facility would have child-friendly features and design elements, all its nooks and corners will have mandatory adherence to the universal accessibility guidelines for the entire project. The design components for the ISBT project, would integrate mixed land use development with commercial office space, retail space, multi-level car parking and open public space.
