Balasore: The historic Dakota plane that was once used by former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik is on its way to Bhubaneswar Biju Patnaik International Airport, where it will find it’s permanent home. The iconic plane has been loaded on three long trailers and started its journey to Odisha yesterday night from the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. It entered Odisha today morning and is moveing on National Highway 16 to reach Bhubaneswar. People in large numbers gathered along side the National Highway to welcome the Dakota. It will cross through all major cities on the National Highway via Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Cuttack before reaching Bhubaneswar.
Legendary freedom fighter and former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik’s iconic Dakota DC-3 VT-AUI aircraft has been dismantled into three parts for transportation. The three trawlers crossed the Laxmannath toll plaza in Jaleswar early this morning and are scheduled to arrive in Bhubaneswar by evening.
The aircraft was flown by Biju Patnaik in 1947 to rescue the then Prime Minister of Indonesia Sutan Sjahrir and Vice President Sukarno. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) already allotted 1.1 acres of land to the State Government for the iconic Dakota DC-3 VT-AUI aircraft for public viewing.
