Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal has sought strong action against three BJP leaders for allegedly making derogatory misogynist statements about BJD candidate for the Padampur by-poll Barsha Singh Bariha.
A delegation of BJD moved the office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) demanding exemplary action against BJP MP Jual Oram, MLA Jaynarayan Mishra and BJP candidate Pradip Purohit for allegedly making offensive, derogatory, denigrating and misogynist statements about Bariha in the public meetings and in media.
In Odia culture and tradition, women are highly respected. But the women of Odisha are shocked to see the extremely low level depths that the BJP leaders are stooping to and making poll abusive, derogatory, misogynist and offensive personal remarks against BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha thereby denigrating the self-dignity of a woman and insulting womanhood in itself, the delegation informed the CEO.
Apart from these three, there are many offenders within the BJP who have violated the “Lakshrnan Rekha” of speaking about a woman with dignity and trampled the centuries-old heritage of India which is based on respect for women, the BJD said.
