BJD MP Demands Inclusion of Ahimsa in Preamble of Constitution
Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal MP Dr. Sasmit Patra on Monday demanded the inclusion of Ahimsa (Non-violence) in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.
Raising the issue in the Rajya Sabah, the BJD MP said that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had requested for the inclusion of the Ahimsa in the Preamble of the Constitution at the meetings of the National Committee for commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Dr. Patra further said that the Odisha Legislative Assembly had a passed a resolution in 2021 in this regard.
Earlier, CM Naveen Patnaik said that the Mahatma Gandhi’s doctrine of Ahimsa is the most powerful tool to achieve peace, prosperity and equality in the country.
The most important aspect of the Mahatma’s doctrine of non-violence was that poverty and social injustice were the worst kind of violence. As Gandhi ji said that as long as poverty exists freedom is meaningless. To remove poverty is the greatest task faced by any government. This cannot be achieved without non-violence, Naveen had said.
The inclusion of Ahimsa in the Preamble of the Constitution would be a befitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Odisha CM emphasized.
