Bhubaneswar: A delegation of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) met Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) here on Monday demanding postponement of meeting and programme of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes member Anant Nayak in poll-bound Jharsuguda.
“We have come to know from reliable sources that Member, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes is coming to Jharsuguda for a meeting and some programme”, the BJD delegation informed the CEO.
Nayak has been a BJP leader in the past and was elected as a Member of Parliament from Keonjhar. But now he is holding a prestigious Constitutional position as that of Member, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes. Therefore, there is no justification for him to hold such a meeting in Jharsuguda especially with the Election Model Code of Conduct in force. If he does so, it would be construed as being a violation of the Election Code of Conduct, the BJD said.
