Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has roped in self-help groups (SHGs) of Mission Shakti for development work of Lake Zone- 1 at Nicco Park in the capital city.
The development work of Lake Zone – 1(NICCO PARK) with its leading drain no. 10 has been awarded to 16 Mission Shakti Groups (SHGs).
The meeting chaired by BMC Mayor Sulochana Das in presence of BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange addressed the role of SHGs as implementation partners .
In different activities SHGs have been involved and proved their capacity and integrity of taking up assignments and fulfilling its objectives, told the Mayor.
The SHGs were awarded the work on lottery basis. On sight distribution of patches was done in presence of Mayor and Commissioner, BMC.
The scope of work include dewatering, depending, desilting, removing existing later items stone from the bed of both sides of the wetland, packing of gravels, construction of nine gabions, fencing on gabion, providing bamboo plantation and bio fencing along walkway, ground preparation and plantation and repair of paver walkway etc.
The area comes under three wards (28, 35 and 36) with approved budget of Rs 1.85 crore.
Activities will be implemented through SHGs with the guidance of BMC Engineering Wing and water rejuvenation unit. This is a MUKTA scheme project.
