Bhubaneswar: Heralding a new era of connectivity, and empowering the remotest areas of the state, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will today inaugurate the Malkangiri Airport. It will be the newest airport to join the aviation map of the country as Odisha bolsters connectivity infrastructure across the state particularly in the remotest areas. With the formal inauguration of the Airport, the dreams of lakhs of people of Malkangiri comes true.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to arrive at Malkangiri in a special flight at about 11.45 am and inaugurate the Airport. 5T Chairman Kartik Pandian will accompany the Chief Minister. All arrangement have been completed by the district administration for the inauguration program.
The Malkangiri Airport has been built with the State Government’s own funds. The Government of Odisha has spent an amount of Rs 70 Crore for this. It is built on an area of 233 acres and has a runway of1620 meters where small and medium sized airplanes can land. The airport will give impetus to air connectivity to the farthest districts of the state. It will also greatly help in countering maoist activities in the bordering areas of Chhattisgarh and Telangana. The Airport’s resilient infrastructure can be a boon for disaster management and emergency evacuation in the remotest places.
