Botanical Garden at Sambalpur Zoo Inaugurated

Sambalpur: A beautiful Botanical garden with more than 500 species of plants has been inaugurated at the Sambalpur Zoo today. The latest addition will be the newest nature attraction for the visitors. Debidutta Biswal, IFS, PCCF & HoFF, Government of Odisha, inaugurated the Garden. It has a one kilometer long foot trail within the forest inside zoo surrounded by floral and forest species of plants all around. The botanical garden will be open for visitors from 6 am onwards for morning walkers.

A park has also been developed with a lawn for the visitors to sit and take rest. More than 500 species of plants have been planted like Gravelia, Ficus etc., besides many flowering species. There is a cafeteria and tea centre named – Debrigarh Aroma outside the Zoo. While more than 800 visitors are visiting the zoo daily, on holidays the number increases to more than 1200 daily. The authorities have also made available a battery operated vehicle for old age persons.

Sambalpur Zoo, also known as the Deep Park, has more than 18 varieties of animals including Leopard, Bear, chowsingha, Sambar, Deer etc. This is the only Zoo in Western Odisha, and the new botanical garden will enhance tourist inflow. Morning walkers can also use it as it is in the heart of the Sambalpur city.
