Cuttack: Noted freedom fighter Nilamani Samal passed away while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. He was 101.
The centenarian freedom fighter was the president of Odisha State Freedom Fighters Forum.
Samal, a native of Jajpur district, had joined the freedom struggle at the age of 15 years. He was jailed several times.
Samal was conferred the President’s Award twice for his valiant contribution in the freedom struggle of India.
The freedom fighter was admitted to the SCB MCH on January 24. A four-member medical team at SCB was monitoring his treatment. He passed away today while undergoing treatment.
