Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik have condoled the death of eminent journalist and media educationist Dr. Pradeep Mahapatra, who passed away early morning today while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.
“Saddened to hear the news of the death of Dr. Pradeep Mahapatra, Retired Professor of Journalism Department, Berhampur University. After retirement, Dr. Mahapatra remained active in the field of journalism and authored many articles and books. Journalism has suffered an irreparable loss due to his demise”, the CM wrote on his ‘X’ handle.

LoP Naveen Patnaik said that he was grieved to learn about the demise of senior journalist and educationist Dr. Pradeep Mahapatra. The imprint Dr. Mahapatra has left in the various fields of journalism since long will always be remembered.
Naveen has offered his condolences to the bereaved family members of Dr. Mahapatra and prayed peace to the departed soul.

Dr. Mahapatra was a well-known figure in the state in journalism education and media research. He had been a faculty in Journalism and Mass Communication at Berhampur University for about 27 years. He also served as the HoD of the Department. He had over five decades of work experience in magazine, newspaper, radio, television, cinema, development support communication for rural upliftment and cultural activism.
With the demise of Dr Pradeep Mahapatra, a pall of gloom descended in the literary, academic and journalistic circles of the state.
