Bhubaneswar: The Satabhaya Bagapatia Resettlement colony in Kendrapara district will become a model colony.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved an amount of Rs 22 crore in the first phase for the Satabhaya Bagapatia Resettlement Colony. The decision comes just days after the 5T Secretary VK Pandian visited the Satabhaya area and assured the local people regarding this.

The Satabhaya Bagapatia Resettlement Colony will be developed as a model Colony. The development will be done under the aegis of 5T Initiatives and will be completed in a time bound manner. The people belonging to the village will also be given land if required. It will be India’s first resettlement colony for climate affected people.

On the instructions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, 5T Secretary VK Pandian had made a two-day visit to Kendrapara on 27th and 28th of this month. During his visit, he also went to Satabhaya Bagapatia area. He met the displaced people of the village and listened to their problems and issues. And assured them all help from the Government of Odisha. He also held detailed discussions regarding this with the government officials.

After returning from his Kendrapara visit, the 5T Secretary appraised Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik about the needs of the local people. The Chief Minister immediately approved a rehabilitation package of Rs 22 crore in the first phase. The money will be spent on improvement of dams and fences, housing, livelihood programs, roads, drinking water, electricity and Panchayat houses will be developed. Along with this, based on the need, the villagers will be provided with agricultural land.

The Chief Minister has also directed the Tourism Department to improve the infrastructure and beautify the famous Panchubarahi Peetha and develop it into a major tourist destination by providing light and sound facilities. The Chief Minister has ordered the officials to take up all these works under the 5T Initiatives and complete them within the specified time frame.

It is worth mentioning here that due to the impact of climate change, the Satabhaya village is getting submerged under sea water and the government of Odisha is settling the affected people at Bagapatia area. This will be the first colony in the country to resettle the people affected by climate change.
