Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated the the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy on the successful flight trial of sea-based endo-atmospheric interceptor missile, off the coast of Odisha.

“Congratulate DRDO
and Indian Navy on the successful flight trial of sea-based endo-atmospheric interceptor missile, off the coast of Odisha. It takes India to the elite group of nations having Naval BMD capability”, the CM tweeted.

Adding another feather to the cap, India successfully conducted a maiden flight trial of a sea-based endo-atmospheric interceptor missile. The test was carried out by the DRDO and the Indian Navy off the coast of Odisha in the Bay of Bengal.

The purpose of the trial was to engage and neutralize a hostile ballistic missile threat thereby elevating India into the elite club of Nations having Naval BMD capability, said the Ministry of Defence in an official statement.

Earlier in 2022, DRDO had successfully demonstrated a land-based BMD system with the capability of engaging and neutralizing ballistic missile threats, emerging from adversaries. During that flight test, Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile’s capability was validated with a large kill altitude bracket from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on November 2.
