Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will flag off the Laxmi Bus service in another five districts today. The modern bus service will start in Bargarh, Balangir, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Last year, the state government had started the LAccMI Bus Service – Location Accessible Multi-Modal Initiative Scheme, that will provide ultra modern transport in the hinterlands of the districts for the movement of people from rural to urban areas. The scheme was first launched in Malkangiri. Later, the bus service was started in Koraput district. The bus service is being rolled out in various districts in a phased manner. The fare has been fixed at Rs 5 for women passengers to travel from the Panchayats to Blocks.
A total of 425 buses will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister today. All preparations have been completed by the Department of Commerce and Transport in this regard. With today’s inauguration, the Laxmi buses will be available in 14 districts.
