Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will launch the special scheme for Social Security Assistance for Newspaper Hawkers today. The scheme entails the Newspaper Hawkers registered with the Odisha Unorganized Workers’ Social Security Board (OUWSSB) with financial assistance in case of unforeseen incidents such as death or disability. As part of the efforts to help the people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Odisha Government has also taken a historic decision to provide one-time financial assistance to all the registered newspaper hawkers of the state.
The government will provide Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin in case of death due to accident of the registered beneficiary. In case of natural death, Rs 1 lakh will be given to the family. In case of permanent disability due to accident, an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh will be given to them. The scheme also has provision of financial assistance of Rs 80 thousand to those who lose their both limbs in accident, and Rs 40 thousand in case of partial disability.
The government has also decided to provide the registered newspaper hawkers a special assistance of Rs 3,000 each to all registered newspaper hawkers in two phases through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
