Cuttack: The SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack has created history by conducting the first ever liver transplant in the state. It successfully conducted its first Liver Transplant operation Wednesday. The Medical College doctors successfully transplanted the liver donated by the wife of the patient. For the first time in the history of SCB, a liver transplant has been carried out. A patient from Tigiria area of Athagarh has successfully undergone the liver transplant.
According to sources, a 45 year old man from Tigiri had liver problems for the 6 years. Liver transplant was absolutely necessary for his survival. He was under treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital for the last one and a half months. The Medical College authorities took a decision to conduct the liver transplant in SCB itself to save the live. The patient’s wife agreed to donate the liver. The team of doctors started the critical transplant process from 7.30 am which continued till 4 pm. After a long 10-hour operation, the liver was successfully transplanted. The Liver transplant was carried out at the advanced specially designed modular operation theatre at the trauma building of SCB. The SCB Medical College had signed an MOU with the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG), Hyderabad for the liver transplantation process.
