Berhampur: In a breakthrough, the Berhampur Police has arrested a cyber criminal, who is wanted in several states, from Jharkhand.
The fraudster has been identified as Mohd. Afajal Ansari (28) belonging to Nagadari village of Deoghar district, Jharkhand.
Ansari has been arrested in a case related to “Customer Care Fraud.”
The victim, a professional, searched Google Search Engine for the Customer Care Service number of Blue Dart courier to get the updated status of his parcel of Axis Bank Debit Card. He got trapped by the cyber fraudsters who had cunningly placed Google advertisements mimicking Blue dart courier customer service. The cyber fraudsters cunningly took the bank account and OTP details from victim, according to Berhampur Police.
Ansari defrauded the victim to the tune of Rs. 94,891 by transferring his money to various accounts using UPI. A scientific investigation was carried away and after thorough analysis of the cybercrime , it was ascertained that the inter-state criminals of Jharkhand had committed the offence.
The Investigating Team of Berhampur Police proceeded to Deoghar of Jharkhand. The accused has been identified as Md. Afjal Ansari and two VIVO smart phones and two SIM cards, which were used in the cyber crime, has been seized from him.
Ansari was arrested at Jharkhand and brought to Berhampur. The accused is a member of inter-state cyber fraud criminal gang and is involved in series of cybercrime cases registered in various states such as Jharkhand, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu .
Meanwhile, Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M. has appealed to
to the common public not to search for the customer care number simply from Google, instead search for the toll-free customer care number from the genuine websites.
