Bhubaneswar: With landfall of the cyclonic storm ‘Gulab’ is expected to begin after 9 pm tonight, the Ganjam district administration has stepped up the evacuation process in the vulnerable areas.
The district administration is shifting people from vulnerable areas to safer places.
The admin is leaving no stone unturned to meet any eventuality arising out of the possible Cyclone storm ‘Gulab’.
Cyclone shelter are kept ready for shifting people in low lying and other vulnerable areas, informed Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
The district admini is taking all precautions for the safety of people, he said.
More than 200 people in Bellanguntha block have been shifted to the safer places, informed Ganjam PD DRDA Shinde Dattatraya Bhausaheb.
The field staffs are reaching to the most vulnerable places to evaluate the people before the landfall process, he added.
The cyclonic storm is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur around mid-night of September 26.
Several parts of southern Odisha are experiencing light to moderate rainfall activities since early morning today, the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase gradually as the cyclonic storm will near the coast, the IMD said.
The ‘Red Warning’ has been issued for seven districts of Odisha- Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri. All these districts will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. The alert will remain valid till morning hours of September 27, as per an IMD bulletin.
