Cyclone May Give A Miss To Odisha Coast: SRC

Bhubaneswar: The Depression, which is brewing in the North Andaman Sea into Cyclone Asani, is likely to give a miss to Odisha Coast and move parallel northwestwards till 10th May and recurve north northeastwards thereafter. While it will intensify into a Cyclonic Storm on 8th May, the coastal districts will see moderate to heavy rains due to its impact between 9th and 11th May. Briefing mediapersons, Odisha SRC Pradeep Kumar Jena has said that, the predictions until now suggest that the Cyclone will not touch Odisha Coast.

The Depression is currently situated about 170 km west of CarNicobar, 1270 km southeast of Visakhapatnam and 1300 km south-southeast of Puri in Odisha. He said that, winds with 50 to 70 kilometers speed are expected in the coastal areas. Heavy rains are expected at some places of Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri on the 10th of May and in Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack on 11th May. The sea surface will be volatile and fishermen have been requested not to venture into the sea after 8th May.
