Cyclone Michaung To Intensify Into Severe Cyclonic Storm; Met Predicts Heavy Rains In Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The Cyclonic Storm Michaung over Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal will intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm today. It moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during past 06 hours.

It is likely to move northwards almost parallel and close to south Andhra Pradesh coast and cross South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam, close to Bapatla during the forenoon of 5th December as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that, due to the Cyclone, many districts of Odisha will receive heavy to very heavy rains from tomorrow.

According to the IMD Bhubaneswar, light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur and at many places over the rest districts of south interior Odisha, north coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north interior Odisha.

It has issued Orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) that is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam
