Bhubaneswar: Bringing respite to the people of Odisha and the state government, the Indian Meteorological Department has said that the prevailing Low Pressure area over North Andaman Sea is likely to skirt Odisha Coast after intensifying into a Cyclonic Storm.
“It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over East-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal around 22nd October and into a deep depression on 23rd October. Subsequently, it is very likely to recurve northwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over west-central and adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal by 24th October. Thereafter, it is likely to move gradually north- northeastwards and reach near West Bengal – Bangladesh coasts on 25th October, skirting Odisha coast, the IMD said.
Under the influence of the system, rainfall activity is very likely to commence from early hours of 24th October 2022 over coastal districts of Odisha. The IMD has predicted heavy rains for three districts – Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Puri and issued a yellow warning. Likewise, on 25th October, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts will receive heavy rains. Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khorda and Puri districts will also receive heavy rains due to the system.
Gale wind speed reaching 60 to 70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph is likely over west-central and adjoining east-central and north Bay of Bengal. Sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough over central adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal from 22nd October and is likely to be high over west-central and adjoining east-central and North Bay of Bengal on 24th, and likely to be high over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on 25th October, 2022.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal from 22nd October and along and off Odisha coast and West-central & North Bay of Bengal from 23rd October till further notice. Fishermen whoever in deep sea are advised to return to the coast by 22nd October, 2022.
