Delhi L-G announces to develop ‘Amrit Vatika’ near National War Memorial

New Delhi:  Delhi L-G V.K Saxena on Wednesday announced construction of a garden ‘Amrit Vatika’ near the National War Memorial.

Paying tributes to the brave hearts in the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign, the L-G announced new construction of ‘Amrit Vatika’ as a symbol of unity.

The garden will be constructed from soil brought in from all 11 districts of Delhi.

The L-G also said that this campaign is an opportunity to pay respects and express gratitude to the brave men and women who gave their lives to secure freedom and protect our cherished heritage.

“Their names will be inscribed on the ‘Shilaphalakam,’ which will stand as a local tribute in villages and urban areas across our nation,” he said.

Saxena also flagged off the 11 urns containing soil to travel through the city, for their destination at National War Memorial.

Youth, volunteers and other people from all corners of the country collected soil from Panchayats/villages and brought it to the block level.

Similarly, soil was collected from smaller urban bodies and brought to larger municipalities/urban local bodies. Subsequently, ‘Mitti Kalash’ having the soil from the Panchayats/villages/urban areas was carried to the national capital.

“The ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ which carries the essence of our villages, signifies the strength that is derived from the unity and shared roots,” he said.

Before flagging of the Amrit Kalash Yatra, the ‘Panch Pran’ pledge was also administered by the L-G, to all those present, including school students, present on the occasion.
