Dhenkanal: In a major breakthrough, the Dhenkanal Police has cracked the Mahabirod Gramya Bank robbery case and arrested nine inter-district criminals involved in the dacoity.
The special team of Dhenkanal police successfully recovered 6 kg 120gm of gold, cash worth Rs 4,32000, 4 M/Cs, 3 pistols ,11 live ammunitions, three knives and 26 mobile phones from the criminals.
DIG, North-Central Range, Brijesh Kumar Rai has lauded the efforts of Dhenkanal police in cracking the case.
On February 3, four or more armed robbers entered the bank premises in two black motorcycles and took the staff and some customers as hostages. After locking them up in a room, the robbers collected 528 packets of gold weighing 6 kg 120 grams and Rs 6.40 lakh in cash before fleeing the scene. Dhenkanal SP Gyanaranjan Mohapatra formed a special team and raided various parts of the state to arrest the accused. Besides, a special squad was formed with 50 police officers Dhenkanal district and 2 additional SPs of Angul to trace the robbers, as per reports.
Nine accused involved in the armed robbery were arrested. They will be produced in court. Later, they will be brought on remand for further interrogation, the DIG informed.
The inter-district robbery gang has more than 32 cases pending against it.
