Cuttack: Adding another feather to its cap of successes in providing quality healthcare services, doctors at the SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack have successfully removed a tumor from the trachea of a patient without using any anesthesia. This is the first and rarest of its kind operation in Odisha where a tumor was removed from the trachea of a 21 year old youth belonging to Deogarh district. The tumor was removed using ECMO support.
The successful surgery was carried out at the Cardiovascular Surgery department of SCM Medical College. As the place of occurrence of the tumor was in the windpipe and it was not possible to administer anesthesia, the surgery was carried out using ECMO support.
