Dolphin Census to Start at Bhitarkanika, Gahirmatha Sanctuary from January 20

Bhubaneswar: A dolphin census will be conducted at Bhitarkanika National Park and Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary in Kendrapara district from January 20.

The census will be done by the Forest Department till January 22.

The dolphin census will be conducted in the sea area from the Dhamara river mouth to the Devi river mouth along with in the rivers and small water bodies in the Bhitarkanika National Park
The dolphin census is carried out in the state every year in December. However, this year, it is being conducted in the third week of January, according to a forest official.

The enumerators will be provided with GPS equipment to map the exact location of the dolphins during the census.
