Elections 2024: Odisha Police to Set up Special Unit to Monitor Fake News on Social Media

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police has set up a special unit to monitor fake news on social media platforms in the ensuing General and Assembly elections in the State.

IGP (Crime Branch) Shefeen Ahamed has been appointed as the nodal officer of this special unit.

“There is a specific guideline from the ECI regarding fake news and misinformation. An IG rank officer in coordination with the IT department will monitor all news content on social media and deal with false online content related to elections”, said DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi.

The State Police has also urged the people to refrain from spreading fake news and misinformation. The Police has warned of stringent action against people and organisations sharing fake and provocative content on social media platforms.
