Female Maoist Killed In Exchange of Fire Between Security Forces And Left-wing Extremists in Kandhamal

Phulbani: In a major success to the anti-maoist forces in Kandhamal, a joint team of SOG and DVF has neutralised one female Maoist Cadre in an exchange of fire. According to a press release from Kandhamal Police, based on reliable input, an anti-naxal Operation comprising of a joint team of SOG and DVF, Kandhamal was launched 9th October under Balliguda police station limits in Kandhamal District. During the combing operation near the village area of Kanasalu at around 4.30 PM to 05 PM, the Maoists resorted to heavy firing from advantageous position and lobbed grenades upon the police team. The police team immediately took cover and asked Maoists to surrender themselves. In order to save their lives, the police team fired in a controlled manner. Taking the benefit of dense forest and difficult terrain, Maoists escaped from the spot.

During the course of search in that area, dead body of one female armed Maoist was recovered along with many camp articles. The identification of the dead body is yet to be ascertained. Further search operation is continuing. One firearm, thirteen 12 Bore cartridges and other articles along with camp material were recovered.
