Five Candidates in Fray for Dhamnagar By-poll; 2, 38,417 Voters To Cast Their Votes In 252 Booths

Bhubaneswar: With the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers ending today, five candidates are remaining in fray for the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency by-polls that are scheduled to be held on 3rd November.

While six candidates had filed nomination papers, one of them was rejected during the scrutiny, said Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Lohani today.

BJD candidate Abanti Das, BJP candidate Suryabanshi Suraj, Congress candidate Baba Harekrushna Sethi and two other independent candidates are in the fray.

Speaking to media, the CEO said as many as 2,38,417 voters will exercise their franchise in 252 booths and all preparations are going on. Of the total voters, 1,23,038 are male, 1,15,346 female, 33 transgenders and 4656 are PWDs.

Out of the 252 booths, 107 have been identified as sensitive booths and web casting will be done in 126 booths. The Election Commission will deploy 26 Micro Observers, four companies of Central forces, 23 platoons of state police forces for smooth conduct of the voting.

He said strict security and surveillance is being observed in the constituency and 187 licensed arms have been deposited, 1167 persons have been bound down under Preventive Sections of CRPC and 53 Non-Bailable Warrants have been executed.
