Cuttack: Five outsourcing staff of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack have been arrested by the Commissionerate police for allegedly acting as middlemen to divert patients to private diagnostic centres.
The accused persons were working as attendants at the Radiology Department at the SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The accused have been identified as Bulu @ Bijay Das (50), Dipti Ranjan Nayak(35), Laxmidhar Naik (42), Sachidanand Sahoo (48) and Ramani Ranjan Mohapatra (41), all belonging to Cuttack district.
Debabrata Mohanty, SI of Mangalabag P.S reported that due to abdomen pain he went to consult a doctor at the Medicine Ward of SCB MCH, Cuttack, and as per the advice of the doctor, he went to the Radiology Department of SCB MCH, for ultrasound, where the doctor of the Radiology Department gave him a long date i.e. 19.07.2022 for his ultrasound.
After sometime, five persons came to him and identified themselves as staff of SCB MCH, Cuttack and demanded Rs.200 for early ultrasound, and if not possible, they also convinced him to go for the testing at MAX Diagnostic Centre at low cost.
The police had prior information that some outsourcing staff of SCB MCH, Cuttack were indulging in bribery and were collecting money from innocent patients who are coming from remote areas and diverted them to different private hospitals and clinics for testing and treatment. They collected huge amounts from them by cheating in the name of good service and early conduct of Ultrasound, X-Ray and CT Scan, informed Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra.
After investigation, the five accused persons have been arrested on Tuesday by Mangalabag Police and were forwarded to Court.
