Ganjam Police Conducts Raids against Pre-activated SIM Cards

Chatrapur: The Ganjam police have conducted raids against pre-activated SIM cards to keep a tab on cyber criminals.

The cops conducted raid against pre-activated SIM cards in various police station limits of Ganjam police district, informed Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Rai.

The move comes just days after the Crime Branch of Odisha Police busted a major pre-activated SIM card racket and arrested three persons from Dhenkanal for allegedly selling the cards to cyber criminals who created a fake WhatsApp account in the name of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and used it to demand money from Members of Parliament.

The Crime Branch had seized as many as 19,641 pre-activated SIM cards, 48 mobile phones, Rs 14.32 lakh in cash, documents, and other incriminating materials from the possession of the accused.

The Crime Branch team has taken the three accused on a five-day remand on Thursday for further investigation.
