Gas Cylinder Blast: Police Arrests Two Including Berhampur Indane Service Owner

Berhampur: A day after two persons were critically injured due to gas cylinder leak, the police today arrested owner of Berhampur Indane Service and one of the delivery men for allegedly illegally hoarding gas cylinders.

The owner has been identified as Trilochan Panigrahi who has engaged Daitary Nayak and Ashok Nayak as delivery men.

The Berhampur Police arrested Trilochan Panigrahi and Daitari Nayak.

With the knowledge of Panigrahy, Daitary Nayak and Ashok Nayak hoarded huge numbers of gas cylinders for sale to have higher profit. They did not have any fire safety security measures, the Berhampur Police said.

On Friday, they had stored 65 gas cylinders, both commercial and domestic. Out of which 23 commercial gas cylinders were filled up and others were empty. Out of those filled up gas tank two gas cylinders leaked due to which it blasted resulting in grievous injury to Debaraj Nayak and Ashok Nayak in Ramachandrapur village under Gopalpur Police station limits. Due to the impact of blast the pucca house of Debaraj Nayak got badly damaged. The injured have been shifted to SCB Cuttack medical for better treatment. Fire officer had extinguished the fire/leakage of gas.

The accused persons Daitari Nayak and Trilochan Panigrahi were arrested and forwarded to the court, the police said while adding that the case is under investigation.

The police also seized 21 Indane commercial gas cylinders each containing 19 KGs, 11 Indane commercial empty gas cylinders, 27 Indane domestic empty gas cylinders, three (5 KG)Indane domestic empty gas cylinders, one (10 KG) Indane domestic empty gas cylinder, Two Indane commercial leaked/partly filled gas cylinders and one vehicle.
