Gujarat: Man held for snatching Congress MLA’s wife’s iPhone

Gujarat police have nabbed a man who snatched the iPhone of Diptiben Chaudhary, wife of Khedbrahmna Congress MLA Dr Tushar Chaudhary.

The robbers were caught by the police in four days.

The incident took place on the evening of June 23 when an unidentified individual on a two-wheeler snatched the iPhone, valued at Rs 60,000, from Diptiben during her evening walk.

Acting promptly, MLA Tushar Chaudhary alerted the city Police Commissioner, leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect named Saurabh Vijaybhai Mundhra, a resident of Saroli. The stolen iPhone was also recovered along with a two-wheeler that was used in the crime.

The victim, Dr Dipti Chaudhary, works as a physiotherapist at the Surat Municipal Corporation-run SMIMER hospital. The Chaudhary family resides in the Adhar Shila apartment on Ghod Dod Road.

According to the accused, Saurabh, a commerce graduate from MS University and belonging to the Maheshwari community, committed the crime out of desperation for money to fuel his alcohol consumption.

He claimed that this was his first snatching incident and he was unaware of the victim’s identity as the wife of a sitting MLA. CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the suspect. The accused had previously worked as a food delivery boy.
