Hardcore Maoist Lalsu @ Laxman With Rs 5 Lakh Reward Surrenders To Kalahandi Police

Kalahandi: A hardcore CPI Maoist Lalsu @ Laxman, Area Committee Secretary of Kalahandi Area Committee, BGN Division of Odisha State Committee, has surrendered before the South Western Range DIG of Police Rajesh Pandit in presence of Dr. Saravana Vivek M, Superintendent of Police, Kalahandi and Biplab Sarkar, Commandant, CRPF today. Lalsu had joined the outlawed CPI Maoists Organisation in the year 2009. After being in Ganglor Dalam Chattisgarh for about one year, he came to the Niyamagiri LOS of Odisha in 2011. Since then he was operating as an insurgent in Odisha. He also operated as the Area Committee Member and Area Committee Secretary of the Organisation since then. He was an active member carrying with him SLR gun and promoting ideology of Maoists. He was carrying a reward of Rs 5 Lakhs on his head.

The main reasons for his leaving the Maoist organization and surrender before police include recent appeals made by the Government of Odisha and Odisha Police to active Maoists and Militias to leave the path of violence by surrendering and joining the mainstream by making use of the Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy of the government.

Lalsu was disillusioned with the Maoist ideology because of the ill treatment to lower rank cadres atrocities to women cadres and most importantly injustice meted out to the tribal people. He understood that Maoists are killing innocent people and were against developmental works of the administration like roads, bridges, schools and hospitals. Lalsu witnessed the human touch of police when he learnt about his former party members Ramdas and Kalam Dei who had surrendered and rehabilitated and got married with the help of Kalahandi police. He realised the futility of the violence of Maoists and decided to surrender.

Due to the better Surrender and Rehabilitation policy of the Government of Odisha, many Maoists who are native of neighbouring Chhatisgarh are also surrendering in Odisha in various districts. Lalsu was motivated to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream. He will be given livelihood training so that he can get gainful employment.

He will also be rehabilitated and provided financial assistance of Rs 5 Lakhs, homestead land, expenses of building house, marriage allowance, study allowance of Rs. 3,000 per month and vocational training.
