Kendrapara: In a bizarre incident, a home guard died on the spot when a speeding van run over him during checking by the transport department. According to reports, home guard Prabin Mahapatra was among the RTO Enforcement team members who were undertaking a checking of vehicles for overloading near Balabhadrapur on National Highway 53. A van lost control and ran over the home guard. He died on the spot. Tension prevailed for some time on the spot. Local people have alleged that the transport department conducts checking especially during the wee hours which causes accidents.
