Keeping in view the rising number of cases, the Center has written letters to five states including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra asking them to follow risk-assessment-based approach in the public health responses. The letter written by the Health Secretary said that a sustained and significant decline in the number of COVID-19 cases has been observed in India over the past three months. But in the past one week, a slight rise in cases is noticed with 15,708 cases reported in the week ending June 3, 2022. It also said that the few States which are reporting a increasing number of infections indicate the possibility of localized spread of infection.
It also asked the states to go for strict adherence to Covid appropriate behaviour and monitor the rise in the number of cases. It also said that “the States should go for genomic sequencing for prescribed samples of international passengers, collection of samples from sentinel sites and local clusters of cases. States must maintain a strict watch and take pre-emptive action if required to control any emerging spread of infection,’’.
