Jagdeep Dhankhar Set To Be Elected As India’s Next Vice President As Opposition Lacks Required Numbers
New Delhi: The National Democratic Alliance candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar is set to become the next Vice-President of India. The elections, to be held from 10 am to 5 pm today, are slated to be one sided as the Opposition UPA has no matching numbers. NDA’s Dhankhar, a Jat leader from Rajasthan is pitted against Congress veteran Margaret Alva. The win for Dhankhar is inevitable as the key opposition member Trinmool Congress has decided to abstain from voting. Bahujan Sajamwadi Party and The Telugu Desam Party have also declared their support the candidature of Jagdeep Dhankhar. The Biju Janata Dal is also supporting the candidature of Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The term of the incumbent Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu ends on the 10th of this month. The electoral college for electing the Vice President comprises of 788 members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Votes will be counted today itself.
