Rayagada: The number of deaths due to the cholera outbreak in Rayagada’s Kahipur Block has risen to nine with the death of a 55 year old man yesterday.
The person is identified as from the Dengaguda village of Dudukabahal Panchayat. About 48 patients affected with cholera are under treatment in three hospitals of the district.
The district administration has been taking all steps to contain the disease. While expert teams of doctors are on the ground to treat the people, the administration has also been providing clean water for drinking and other purposes in all the affected areas.
The water sources in the areas are being decontaminated on a war footing.
Health Minister Naba Kishore Das and ST & SC Development Minister Jagannath Saraka will visit the affected villages today along with the senior officials of the district to review the situation.
