Keonjhar’s Damayanti Rout Selected for National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award 2021

Keonjhar: Damayanti Rout, an Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) from Odisha’s Keonjhar district, has been selected for the National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award 2021 instituted by the Indian Nursing Council.

Damayanti, who has been working at Gounighasa Subcenter under Harichandanpur Block, has been selected for the prestigious award for her dedication and commitment in the range of health interventions as Immunization, Family Planning Programme, Swachha Bharat Abhijan Programme Implementation and health-related IEC Activities among others.

Rout is working at Gounighasa Subcenter since 2003 with a population of 5470. Out of this population, 75% of people are tribal. She serves all sites with her bicycle and has built good relationships with rural people.

She is conducting the Immunisation and VHND Session site at each hard to-reach village area which has no communication and Jungle prone area. In spite of that she has alone visiting that site with the help of local people.

She has created special trust among the tribal people towards the Govt flagship programmes. At the rainy season she visits to all the cutoff areas through local arrangement. She has made managerial capacity and skill among all the field functionaries. Her full immuinisation coverage is 97% and there is no Maternal Death & Infant death occurred.

She is the only one ANM who is motivating and counselling the male for NSV family planning method. She is given the NSV services through adopting Counselling method. She motivated 36 NSV cases in the last five years. She has also motivated for Female Planning Operation cases at each site. She is the only one ANM who has registered highest number of 118 cases motivated for female family planning operation in the last five year.

She is also organizing the village level meeting at their area. She is addressing all the issues at GP level meeting & at GKS meeting on health. She has built the good rapport with PRIs.

She is observing the Swachhata Pakhawara at each year at their Village level. She has organized all the convergence meeting among the Gaon Kalyan Samiti & GP level meeting. She creates revolution at their area and all the tribal people trust her and at night when any health-related problem found from village side she visits instantly at that place and give the health support on the spot.

She has also always focused on various IEC activities through wall painting for community awareness. She is perfectly managing all the Gaon KalyanaSamiti(GKS) under her Subcenter and implementing all the Govt. vertical programmes. And facilitate all the deployed IEC Vans on different programmes.

She is line listed all the Higk Risk Mother list and accordingly visiting all the high risk mother with ASHA and concerned supervisor at all Hard-to-reach area and test all types of testing.

Born in 1968, Damayanti passed out from institution Keonjhar Govt. ANM Center,Keonjhar . She had been posted first at Khamara UGPHC under Anugul District in the Year-1996 then she transferred to Kasia Subcenter under Jhumpura CHC, Keonjhar then Billa Subcenter under Harichandanpur Block and then now she is working Gounighasa Subcenter under Harichandanpur Block.
