Mahanadi Water Being Released Through 26 Gates At Hirakud Dam, Downstream Low Laying Areas Face Flood Threat

Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened four more sluice gates taking the total number of gates open to 26 to release the flood waters. While 4.4 lakh cusecs of water is entering the Dam, 3.89 lakh cusecs of water is being released downstream. Currently, the water level at Hirakud Dam stands at 627.95 feet.

With the opening of the 26 gates, low laying areas of Sambalpur town now face the threat of flooding. Likewise, water level at Athamalik in Anugul, Bhattarika and Banki in Cuttack is rising and low level areas are getting flood waters.

The famous Bhattarika Temple in Cuttack Badamba is submerged in two feet water. While the inflow at Munduli barrage at 9 am today stood at 6 lakh cusecs, the outflow was 6.69 lakh cusecs.
