Malkangiri: In a happening that is surely going to change the common man’s perception towards police and bring in positive vives, a lady police constable has turned to be a guardian angel for a four month old baby girl whose mother was sitting in a written examination for the post of constable. This has happened in Malkangiri yesterday. When Chanchala Malik came to appear for her written examination for the post of Constable with her four month old daughter, Constable Basanti Chowdhary, who was posted there on duty, took care of the baby for more than two hours. Basanti, who herself is a mother of eight month old baby, not only took care of the baby but also breastfed the baby.
Speaking about the incident, Constable Basanti says that “I was touched when I saw the mother in a worried condition as nobody was there to take care of the child. I went to help her out and the baby stopped crying immediately. The Constable aspirant Chanchala was relaxed and wrote the exams for two hours without worrying about the baby. When the baby felt hungry and cried, I breastfed her. It was my duty at that point of time. I felt as if she was my own child. Serving the people is the first priority for us.”
Reacting on this, the mother of the baby Chanchala has thanked the Malkangiri Police for this humanely acts. She said she wants to join the police department to serve the people. While DIG South-western Rajesh Pandit has hailed the good work of Basanti, he said she will be appropriately rewarded. SP Malkangiri also congratulated the lady constable.
