Media Plays an Important Role in Nation Building: I&PR Secy Sanjay Singh at State Level National Press Day Celebrations

Bhubaneswar: Media has played an important role in nation building which has been proved especially since the pre-independence period. Many of the freedom fighters, patriots and grate leaders who brought freedom for us were associated with media or took the help of media. Speaking at the State Level National Press Day celebrations as Chief Guest, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Information and Public Relations Department has said that, due to the active participation and cooperation of the Media and its representatives and creation of awareness by them, a pandemic like that of Covid could be controlled within two years. The work of media during Covid is very commendable.

Speaking on the Press Council of India’s theme for this year – Role of Media in Nation Building, Singh said that the state government is always concerned about the welfare of the media representatives of Odisha. The Government of Odisha has been seriously working and implementing the Journalist Welfare Scheme, Health Insurance Scheme among others for the media fraternity and fulfilling their other needs.

He said that while publishing the news, the purpose of that news should be weighed and the emphasis should be on publishing news that will benefit the state and the nation and contribute to the development of the society.

Prior to the State Level Program, he inaugurated the special Newspaper Exhibition held at the Jaydev Bhawan.
