New Delhi: The Netherlands all-rounder Logan van Beek feels confident of their chances against Australia and has stated that there was ‘another upset on the card’ ahead of their match against the former champions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Van Beek looked confident of reaching the semifinals and stated of another upset against the five-time World Champions.
“Why not? It’s, you know, we’ve come here to reach the semifinals. That’s our goal. It’s been pretty clear throughout the whole preparation phase. And the South African win just gave us that extra belief that you know the way they’re playing at the moment on our day we can still beat a good team,” said Van Beek.
Van Beek also highlighted team consistency and preparation as the reason behind the Netherlands being able to upset South Africa earlier on in the World Cup.
“I think it’s the consistency of preparation. So no matter who we’re going up against, we consistently prepare exactly the same every time, whether it be Australia, whether it be Oman, that we go through the same process in terms of preparation. We don’t leave out anything in terms of how hard we train the analyst work that we do or the preparation we do in our recovery, everything. It’s all consistent,” he added.
The Netherlands have been at the forefront of the tournament, their victory against consistent South Africa by 38 runs marked their first win against a Test-playing side in ODIs and their third victory in all the ODI World Cups they have played.
It was a historic moment for the Dutch team, who had previously beaten South Africa at the T20 World Cup the previous year.
The Netherlands will lock horns with mighty Australia on Wednesday, who are coming after back-to-back victories against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, after losing to India and South Africa in their initial games.
