Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government’s decision to engage women self-help groups (SHGs) in paddy procurement has not only enhanced the scope of women empowerment, but has also revolutionized the paddy procurement process in the State.
The SHGs under the ambit of Mission Shakti, are successfully procuring paddy from the farmers and strengthening the economic backbone of not only their families but also of the society at large.
During this Kharif season, over 5.6 lakh MT of paddy, valued at Rs.1100 crores has been procured so far by the SHGs.
Proficiently skilled in the application of digital technologies on the online P-PAS platform using iris scanners, laptops & other digital infrastructures, 562 Mission Shakti SHGs from 20 districts have been taking up the procurement drive with great passion.
“Challenging gender stereotypes, the engagement of Mission Shakti SHGs has revolutionized the field of Paddy #procurement in Odisha since 2018. During this Kharif season, over 5.6 lakh MT of paddy, valued at Rs.1100 crores has been procured so far”, the Mission Shakti Department informed.
